Job Description

About SLAM

SLAM has been the authentic voice of basketball culture for nearly 30 years. Through our print magazine, digital channels, and ecommerce brand, we merge storytelling, hoops, and streetwear to inspire the next generation of players, fans, and creators.

We're not just a media company, we're a movement. On the merchandising side, that means delivering bold, stylish, and high-quality products through a best-in-class fulfillment operation. From apparel to collectibles and exclusive collaborations, we bring the culture of the game to fans around the world.

We’re on a mission to design merchandise that resonates with fans and players alike, and we’re growing our team to make that happen. We’re looking for a passionate Junior Graphic Designer to join us in Indianapolis, IN, and help shape the visual storytelling of the game through apparel and product design.

Position Overview

As a Junior Graphic Designer, you will focus on designing graphics for WNBA-inspired apparel, accessories, and lifestyle merchandise. You will collaborate with our design, marketing, and product teams to develop trend-forward collections that reflect the energy, diversity, and passion of women’s basketball culture.

In this entry-level role, you will work closely with the Creative Director to build a strong foundation in all aspects of apparel design, from concept development to production. This hands-on experience will include learning about trend research, graphic creation, material selection, print techniques, and the merchandising process. You’ll gain valuable insight into how WNBA-inspired collections are brought to life, sharpening your skills in design software, collaboration, and brand storytelling.

This position offers the opportunity to grow your career in sports and lifestyle apparel while contributing to the future of women’s basketball culture—right here in Indianapolis.

What You'll Do

  • Create graphics, illustrations, and branding elements for WNBA-themed apparel and merchandise.
  • Work with the design team to develop seasonal collections, including t-shirts, hoodies, jerseys, hats, and accessories.
  • Research design trends in sports, streetwear, and fan culture to inspire fresh, innovative concepts.
  • Collaborate with product developers and manufacturers to ensure artwork translates effectively to physical merchandise.
  • Prepare production-ready files, including tech packs, color separations, and print specifications.
  • Support marketing and e-commerce teams by creating digital assets such as product mockups, social media graphics, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain brand consistency while exploring new creative approaches that resonate with WNBA fans.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for new product lines and collaborations.
  • Support other SLAM graphic design, creative and marketing requests as needed.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); experience with Figma or other design tools is a plus.
  • Passion for basketball, sports fashion, and streetwear trends.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative mindset.

If you’re a creative, basketball-loving designer ready to bring fresh ideas to the WNBA merchandise space, we’d love to hear from you!

Why You'll Love Working at SLAM

We offer a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits, including:

  • Company-paid life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with 3% company match
  • Paid vacation, personal, sick, and wellness days

  • A dynamic, fun, and culture-forward work environment
